Senior Al-Shabaab commander has been killed in a rare clashes between Islamist fighters in Somalia’s Gedo region, KNN reports on Saturday.
The killed official Abdullahi Bahar was once the group’s governor of the Baardhere district in the Gedo region.
Infighting between Islamist militants reported to have taken place near Baardhere on Friday.
Reports say that militias loyal to the killed official defected Al-Shabaab and were planning to surrender to Somli government.
The motive behind the infighting is said to be when the killed official contacted to Somali government officials in the capital Mogadishu. He was planning to except recent amnesty offered by Somali president Mohamed Abdullah Farmajo.
